First Christian Church of Rialto

Located at 201 N. Riverside Avenue, the First Christian Church of Rialto stands as one of the city’s most treasured historic landmarks.

Founded in 1905, the congregation constructed the church between 1906 and 1907. Designed by architect H. M. Patterson, the building showcases a distinctive blend of Late Gothic Revival architecture with subtle American Craftsman influences.

Architectural Highlights

The church features many defining elements of Gothic Revival design, including:

  • A steeply pitched gable roof

  • A prominent corner tower

  • Pointed arch details

  • Stained glass windows

  • Louvered vents

Craftsman-style characteristics are visible in:

  • Redwood shingle siding and roofing

  • Overhanging eaves with ornamental brackets

  • Decorative exterior stickwork

This unique architectural combination gives the structure both vertical elegance and warm, handcrafted character.

A Saved Landmark

In 1964, the City of Rialto purchased the church to prevent its demolition, preserving an important piece of the city’s early history.

National Recognition

The First Christian Church of Rialto was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 20, 2003, recognizing its architectural and historical significance.
